Making a world of difference
To us, our Corporate Social Responsibilities are our way of giving something back and showing that the industry we operate in cares. We work in a sector that can have a particularly significant impact on society and our environment and as market leader we believe it’s important that we lead the way in taking responsibility.
We also believe in helping the community around us. In caring for our employees’ future. In supporting charities. In being socially aware on a local, national and international level. And of course, protecting the environment.
To make sure we achieve our objectives, we have a programme that is helping us to review all areas of our business and constantly improve the work we do, so we can give even more back.
Masternaut Three X is proud to be a member of Business in the community, a unique initiative committed to improving the impact that businesses have on society. Business in the community comprises more than 800 of the UK’s most prolific companies who share Masternaut Three X’s belief that every company has a responsibility to the wider community.
Members share their experiences on a range of issues, including positive recruitment, responsible purchasing and treating customers and employees fairly, to encourage everyone involved to adopt a more community-focussed way of thinking and working.
Supporting our local community is vital to us at Masternaut Three X. That’s why we strive to recruit locally – in fact, the majority of our employee base is from the local area. We are also committed to developing future talent, and work closely with a number of local high schools to offer work experience placements in a range of disciplines. In addition to this, we are currently exploring opportunities to sponsor local sports teams.
We believe in giving something back. This is why Masternaut Three X supports a range of charities – from nationally known organisations to smaller local causes. We’re proud to say that in the last 12 months, we have given in excess of 50k to charity.
Our nominated charity, Help the Aged, is also a client of ours. As an active member of their Engage network, we’ve worked hard to build robust and beneficial partnerships, and have organised numerous fundraising events from tea dances to sponsored treks and even Christmas dinner with Gordon Ramsay! For us, it’s about being innovative and finding new ways to raise both money and awareness.
This is an approach we’ve adopted in all of our charity work. Last year we teamed up with Mamas & Papas to give away 100 booster seats in order to highlight the issue of child safety. And we’re currently working with PhysCap to provide support for children with disabilities.
We have a creative approach to raising money for charities and believe that getting involved, and raising awareness is just as important as the donations themselves. Our revolutionary ‘cash for quitters’ scheme benefits our internal team, and is expected to raise around £15,000 for Cancer Research UK by the end of the year. Click here to read more about 'Cash for quitters'.
We encourage our employees to get us involved in their charity work too. Whatever their chosen cause, our ears are always open and every case is judged on its own merit. Each team member is supported with a day of company time each year for a charitable/community cause.
We’re committed to enhancing our internal team's lives in anyway we can. Many of the internal initiatives are focussed on this objective and that’s why we’ve just introduced an incentive scheme to help our employees quit smoking. Our ‘cash for quitters’ initiative is completely voluntary and offers employees that smoke a £2,500 bonus if they successfully give up for a minimum period of time. Of this bonus, half will go directly to the employee (where we pay the tax and NI), and the other half will go to Cancer Research UK. It really is a win-win situation.
"From the day an employee starts with us, they are part of the Masternaut Three X family"
We strive to make the work environment a great place to be. From the day an employee starts with us, when a group induction is held, they are part of the Masternaut Three X family. At our sites we provide spaces for people to relax, and we stage a regular ‘Martin’s Den’ event that encourages ideas to come from all areas of the business. This allows team members to pitch for investment in their own business ideas. We’re also strong believers in team building and rewarding our teams, which is why we get together most weeks for ‘pizza Fridays’. And outside of work, we run an employee sports and social club, to encourage friendly competition and help everyone get to know each other better.
It’s a fact that happier, healthier people work better. We ensure that our staff have complimentary fresh fruit every day, and provide free massages for employees once a week. And for those that take the healthy option and cycle to work, there is a secure cycle shelter complete with lockers at each site.
We appreciate that our teams work hard for us, and we work hard to support them in return. To help make life a little easier for the parents among us, we provide childcare vouchers. And we’ve also introduced a workplace banking service where employees can seek advice on mortgages and pensions. Our on-site Care Team is always available to offer financial and emotional support for personal issues, and we even celebrate the day every team member joined us by giving them that day off each year.
“We strongly believe in looking after our people, who we think are the greatest source of competitive advantage. At the end of the day, nothing is more important than the health and wellbeing of our colleagues.” Martin Port, Managing Director, Masternaut Three X.
We’re passionate about doing our bit for the environment. By not just thinking green, but being green:
- We have created a ‘Green Team Taskforce’ to ensure we minimise our use of energy and monitor our success.
- We have contracted a waste provider who is committed to recycling 80% of our waste.
- Our cleaners are using only environmentally friendly cleaning products.
- We’re striving for 100% on business paper as well as striving to print 100% of all our brochures and stationery on FSC approved sustainable paper.
- We have selected drinking water machines that use less energy and filter water from our own supply.
- We monitor all our vehicle mileage and offset our business mileage through climate care – last year we offset an impressive 685,000 miles.
- We work closely with the Carbon Trust to make ongoing improvements to the way we work.
- We’ve implemented an employee car-sharing initiative across each of our sites.
- We are proud to be the official sponsor of Green Car Guide Live – the UK’s first green commercial vehicle show.
- We are actively pursuing contracts with renewable gas and electricity suppliers.
